anCnoc Rutter Peated description
'In 2004 the Distillery set about creating a heavily peated spirit in homage to the malt's peaty origins. And thus the limited edition Peaty range was borne each taking their name from Peat cutting tools. The Rutter spade is used to size and separate the peat block producing a turf that is slow burning. This peat creates less reek and therefore gives the whisky a more fragrant smokiness.'
AnCnoc (pronounced 'a-nock') defies convention as it is Gaelic for the nearby Knock Hill. This is unusual as most distilleries are named after the distillery. The name of the distillery is Knockdhu which comes from the Gaelic 'cnoc Dubh' meranig 'black hill'. The distillery although on the border of Speyside is a Highland whisky.
