Harold Currie founded Arran Distillery in 1995 subsequently reviving distilling on the island for the first time in over 150 years. With a background in the whisky industry in Speyside, he was determined that Arran whisky was to have a similar style - sweet and fruity - than that of the nearby regions of Islay and Campbeltown.
In this Arran 1996 #736 bottled exclusively for us here at The Whisky Shop, these characteristics are ever present in what is one of the oldest single cask expressions Arran have ever released. A deep amber colour with rosewood lights, the nose is mellow rich and juicy, with top notes on the palate of dried figs, cherries and crystalised angelica root edging towards christmas cake. Water introduces a hint of toffee and orange zest, with the taste savoury and salty, finishing short, warming and slightly mouth-cooling.
This 24-year-old is limited to 295 bottles at an ABV of 50.8%. Natural colour and free from chill filtration.
