This latest release in the Tun 1509 series from The Balvenie has been crafted with no fewer than 21 hand-selected casks including liquid from refill sherry butts, ex-bourbon American oak barrels and DoubleWood refill sherry butts, which were originally used to finish DoubleWood before being filled with new make and aged. Specially selected by Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE, these casks were brought together in the eponymous Tun 1509, a large oak vessel, where they were married together for three months. Bottled at 50.4% abv, this Speyside single malt is available in limited quantities worldwide.
The nose is rich with brown sugar, blossom honey, ginger oak and toffee notes. The palate has a beautiful depth with a touch of maple syrup, candied orange and honey. The finish is sweet and malty with lots of vanilla oak and a touch of spice.
