If you missed out on getting a bottle of this exceptional dram the last time, you're in luck. This outstanding expression is available to buy again in store and online. The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old is part of the distillery's Cask Finishes Range which is made up of whiskies that - you guessed it -  are finished in an exciting cask after an initial maturation in American oak to create striking flavour profiles. This is a series that is particularly close to The Balvenie's heart as the distillery's Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE pioneered the process of cask finishing. This addition to the globally renowned range is simply exceptional. Matured for 16 years in American oak, the expression is then finished in ex-Pineau des Charentes French oak casks which bring sweet fruits, as well as zesty and floral notes. Pineau is a fortified wine made from the unfermented grape juices with Cognac eau die vie added before its maturation. This is The Balvenie's first release in the range that explores French oak casks and it is a roaring success. Bottled at 47.6% abv, this sensational expression is light, bright, and perfectly balanced. Gentle and floral on the nose, hints of geranium and freshly cut grass arise. The palate is zesty with grapefruit and lemon, complemented by surprising notes of spicy ginger before leading into the short and refreshing finish. The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old is available to buy at The Whisky Shop here today for £130.
