Ballot Open: Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight Malt
The Ballot for this ultra-mysterious release from the Beast of Dufftown is now open!
From today, Tuesday 23rd August, the members of our W Club can sign up to our Ballot for the chance to buy a bottle of this stunning 30-year-old dram from Mortlach. Our Ballot gives our members a fair and equal opportunity to be in with the chance of purchasing some of the most sought-after drams on the market. We believe this is a much better way of operating opposed to a first come first served basis. You can find out all about how our Ballot works here.
Just 350 bottles of this rare single malt will be released annually, making this a highly collectable whisky. It costs £3,400.
This is undoubtedly Mortlach's boldest and most mysterious release to date. Distilled 2.81 times, this 30-year-old dram has taken on a wonderfully unique flavour due to its maturation in refill American and European oak casks before a three-cask finish in a combination of Bordeaux wine, Calvados, and Guatemalan rum casks. This experimental maturation has resulted in an outstandingly sumptuous and intriguing single malt. The expression has been bottled at 49.1% abv.
The nose is gentle with fresh herbs and welcome meaty notes, reminiscent of pork crackling. The palate brings pleasant spiciness with flavours of cracked black pepper leading the charge, complemented perfectly by decadent fruity hints. The peppery notes continue into the lingering finish that eventually fades to reveal surprising notes of menthol and sweet chocolate.
If you choose to enter the Ballot, your card details will be taken in order to reserve the value of the product. This helps to prevent the issue of multiple entries. The payment will only be taken out of your account if you are successful on the Ballot. If you are unsuccessful, the funds being held on your card will be released.
The Ballot will close at 12pm on Thursday 25th August. The winner will be drawn and informed on Friday 26th August.
