So far we've had recommendations for Redbreast 12 and J.J Corry Bonder's Edition 9 Year Old Palo Cortado Sherry Cask #383 TWS Exclusive, and this week we are hearing once again from our wonderful team in Brighton about their favourite Irish Whiskey - Bushmills 16 Year Old.

Bushmills Irish Whiskey

Bushmills are one of the few whiskey producers to continue to triple distil 100% malted barley in copper pot stills to make single malt whiskey. Bushmills Irish Whiskey appointed its new master blender, Alex Thomas, in November 2021. The distillery is a popular tourist attraction, with around 120,000 visitors per year.

The area around the distillery has a long tradition with distillation. According to one story, as far back as 1276, an early settler called Sir Robert Savage of Ards fortified his troops with “a mighty drop of aqua vitae”. In 1608, a licence was granted to Sir Thomas Phillips by King James I to distil whiskey. The Bushmills Old Distillery Company itself was not established until 1784 by Hugh Anderson. Since then, it has undergone tumultuous times to become one of the most popular Irish whiskeys on the market.

Our Brighton Store

The Whisky Shop Brighton is a small boutique nestled between The Lanes and the beach, and surrounded by shops, restaurants and pubs on one of the main thoroughfares to the shore. Assailed by salty winds from the sea in the winter and regaled by the noise of Lambrettas in the summer, Brighton is a vibrant city full of tourists and students, and amongst this bejewelled city our store is a treasure chest of whisky gems.

Down in this bustling seaside branch are a team of three whisky afficionados waiting to welcome you. Matt, the store Manager and whisky head in chief, Ross who is a professional magician on his time off, and Angel who not only has a passion for whisky but also for bicycles and poetry. They all love their drams and are always happy to chat recommendations and favourites with both connoisseurs and newbies alike.
