The 200th Anniversary Edition of the Laphroaig 15 Year Old has been made in the exact same way as the original. Specially selected barrels were chosen for their particularly mellow and rounded flavour. The matured whisky has then been batch bottled at an export strength of 43% ABV – a higher strength than usual.
The same light, mellow, smoky and peaty flavour that captured the hearts of the people and gained it its many awards all those 30 years ago.
To commemorate this special release, we sat down with a bottle of the new anniversary edition to remind ourselves once again what makes this Islay single malt one of our all-time favourites!
Nose: Sweet caramel joined by that classic Laphroaig saltiness and distinct Islay peat.
Palate: Peppery with a light smokiness, again from the peat - this is met by a slight salty breeze.
Finish: Extremely mellow with a lingering smoky after taste.
Overall the Laphroaig 15 Year Old is still as strong and distinct as it was 30 years ago and remains one of our favourite single malts from this region, if not of all time! Whether you are a fan of other Laphroaig whiskies or simply looking for a new malt to fill your dram glass, the Laphroaig 15 year old will never disappoint; a true classic.
