This week, we have seen two exciting releases from Deanston distillery arrive at The Whisky Shop. Introducing Deanston 2008 PX Cask Finish and Deanston 2007 Calvados Cask!
These delectable expressions wonderfully capture Deanston's innovative abilities - both have enjoyed finishes in unique casks to create two wonderfully distinct flavour profiles.
Deanston 2008 PX Cask
A limited-edition release from Deanston which showcases the distillery's inventive and innovative nature. This expression was distilled and filled into bourbon casks, before being transferred into Pedro Ximenez casks for a three-year finish. Just 2,015 bottles were produced, all at a powerful cask strength of 58.1% abv and without chill filtration or added colouring.
Expect aromas of fig and butterscotch on the particularly well-balanced nose. The palate brings fresh vanilla, raisins, and dates. The finish has aged oak, strawberries and cream, and anise.
Deanston 2007 Calvados Cask
Matured first in ex-bourbon casks, this Highland single malt from Deanston distillery is finished in Calvados casks to create the vibrant, refreshing flavours that appear in this expression. Bottled at a powerful 57.3% abv, this is a truly unique single malt.
The nose has smooth butterscotch, ripe green apples, and heather honey. The notes of apple continue on the palate alongside hints of candied fruits and citrus peel. The finish is sweet, fruity, and refreshing.
These are single malts worth getting excited about. On top of these being top-drawer drams in their own right, you can rest easy knowing that you have shopped with sustainability in mind with Deanston. The distillery was one of the first in Scotland to use hydropower to produce its energy. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to see what Deanston does next!
