From the Banffshire distillery comes A Rare Discovery from Distant Shores, a celebration of the friendship, creativity, and imagination that The Balvenie prides itself on. This expression is finished in Caroni rum casks, which have given the expression its wonderfully unique flavour profile. The malt arrives at a strength of 48% abv. It is available to buy here today for £1,120. Manuka honey and under-ripe banana are present on the indulgent nose. Maple syrup, toffee, and vanilla all mingle on the particularly smooth and sumptuous palate. This smoothness continues into the long and wonderfully sweet finish. Master Blender David Stewart knew that Caroni rum casks had to be used in a Balvenie expression as soon as his friend, John Barrett, brought him some samples of the rum. After moving some 20-year-old rum into these casks for a seven-year finish, David knew he had found something truly special. The Caroni rum casks used for the finish add a particularly exciting element to the expression as the distillery closed its doors in 2002. An exceptionally unique dram!
