What will you give your true love this Christmas?
The traditional Christmas carol “Twelve Days of Christmas” was first published in 1780 under the title “The Twelve Days of Christmas sung at King Pepin’s Ball” in the children’s book, Mirth without Mischief, and is a staple of every self-respecting caroller’s repertoire.
In the most commonly sung version, the proverbial true love sends the singer a total of 40 items of jewellery, 30 noblemen, 34 musicians, at least 76 women, 40 cows, a whopping 184 birds and 12 trees! While the creative thinking involved is admirable – eschewing the usual gifts of socks, chocolates and jumpers – who wants a load of birds, pipers, drummers and dancers making an awful racket in their house this Christmas?
Inspired by this prolific gift-giver, The Whisky Shop has introduced 12 Drams of Christmas, so now that special someone in your life can sing: “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… a lovely little dram of whisky!”
If you’re true love is a fan of livestock being milked in their living room then this is not the gift for you, stick with the traditional menagerie. However, if they enjoy sampling rare and exclusive whiskies, then this will go down a treat! Presented in a beautiful gift box (rather than a lorry), 12 Drams of Christmas comprises 3cl bottles of whisky, ranging in age from 8 to 25 years old, each one ready to hang on the tree to keep the surprises coming throughout the holidays!
