New single cask from Hunter Laing & Co’s Platinum Old & Rare Selection arrives at The Whisky Shop
The year is 1987. The world gets its first taste of a family of colourful characters from Springfield as The Simpsons make their debut in a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show. New Zealand’s revered All Blacks triumph in the first ever Rugby World Cup, hosted by New Zealand and Australia. President Ronald Reagan visits Berlin and issues the challenge heard around the world, "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" Meanwhile, on the banks of the River Spey in the north of Scotland, drops of new make spirit trickle from the stills of Tamdhu distillery.
Thirty years later, The Simpsons wraps its 28th season as the longest running animated series in American TV history, New Zealand’s All Blacks continue to reign supreme as 2015 World Cup champions and number one in the world rankings, Berlin has become the third most visited city in Europe as the capital city of a reunified Germany, and those precious drops of Tamdhu spirit are finally ready to be bottled after three decades maturing in a single sherry butt.
Chosen by Glasgow-based independent bottler, Hunter Laing & Co., for their Platinum Old & Rare Selection, this single cask was finally bottled in July 2017. Only 533 bottles were filled at a cask strength of 53.9% abv free from chill-filtration and artificial colouring. The result is a deeply sherried Speyside single malt with orange marmalade and candied sweetness on the nose, delicious dried fruits and subtle spices on the palate, and a complex fruit and honey finish. Now available to buy at The Whisky Shop while stocks last.
