This is The Macallan's first collaboration with Bentley Motors since forming their partnership in 2021, and it is their second release of their 200th Anniversary celebrations, following Tales of the Macallan Volume II. Two centuries have passed since Alexander Reid distilled the first batch of whisky in his curiously small stills at Easter Elchies and thus began the extraordinary legacy of The Macallan.

For The Macallan Horizon, The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell sought to capture the essence of a Bentley motorcar through the creation of a sophisticated and bold single malt whisky that embodied the rich heritage of both brands. Kirsteen hand-picked six first-fill sherry seasoned oak casks that held the right intensity of flavour and texture to reflect the meeting of The Macallan’s signature style with Bentley’s timeless quality and design.

Each of the six casks we selected to craft the whisky were carefully chosen to contribute particular characteristics and create a unique flavour profile, so that in combination they bring together the leather and oak notes found in the interior of a Bentley with the signature, warming spice of The Macallan. The result is a very special whisky which is as refined, complex and bold as its extraordinary design.

On the nose, there is polished oak with plums and dark cherries, alongside aromatic fresh leather and a herbal, leafy note. An abundance of dried fruits and warm spices follow, leading to a wonderfully rich and indulgent palate of dark treacle, cinder toffee, crystalised ginger and charred pineapple. Sweet vanilla pods and fudge develop, followed by dark chocolate coated brazil nuts and more rich oak on the lengthy finish.

As their most ambitious product design yet, The Macallan Horizon's horizontal vessel defies traditional vertical whisky bottle aesthetics - inspired by the horizontal trajectory of the automotive world. In homage to The Macallan’s Six Pillars, the bottling is made of six materials integral to both The Macallan and Bentley Motors. From the rich, bold character of our single malt whisky to the precision-engineered copper frame forged from recycled copper, each material tells a story of excellence and innovation.

The oak inlay, sourced from one of the six casks used in maturation, symbolises The Macallan's commitment to quality craftsmanship, while Bentley's Crown Cut Walnut veneer adds a touch of refinement, a specification meticulously developed for Bentley cars.

The aluminium ribbon, a nod to the strength and versatility of aluminium in Bentley engineering, elegantly envelops the twisted glass vessel, while the finest low carbon leather, in a chestnut hue, ensures protection and sophistication. Together, these materials are sustainably reused in a beautiful way to form The Macallan Horizon, a testament to the shared values of both brands.
