This bottle was taken from Barrel #81.
The Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project is an ambitious release of whiskey - 192 different whiskies each made by varying seven of the elements of the recipe to give a range that shows the effect of each factor:
- where in the tree the barrel wood comes from
- the thickness of wood grain
- the stave seasoning time
- the level of char
- the mash bill
- barrel filling proof
- the position in the warehouse
This experiment allows whiskey connoisseurs to directly compare the impact of these seven different critical variables with none of the 192 bottles in the complete set being exactly alike.
The Single Oak Project is undoubtedly the most extensive bourbon experiment ever undertaken.
