A gem. This Caol Ila 12 Year Old has spent two years finishing in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at batch strength, it is presented at 56.6% abv, and is the 19th batch from Caol Ila. Originally distilled in May 2008, this is a limited release of only 348 bottles. On the nose, expect to find the coastal influence of Caol Ila’s distillery at work.
Sea salt salinity, peppermint tea, burnt cedar and ginger harmonise together on the nose. Liquorice, distinctive Caol Ila peat, fruitcake and almonds can be found on the palate. The finish is weighty, and gives subtle sweet notes.
