2017 Special Release

One of the 2017 Special Releases from Diageo, this 18 year old from Islay's Caol Ila distillery is from an unpeated batch, made once per year for blending in the 'Highland style'. Matured in refill American oak hogsheads, only a limited quantity has been released worldwide at a natural cask strength of 59.8% abv.

The nose is initially sharp and prickly with lemon zest, becoming sweeter with lemon drizzle cake and vanilla cream, before fruit gums and a soft spice. The palate is sweet with some bitter lemon and a pinch of salt. Sweet candied fruit and salted caramel mingle with sea spray and black pepper spice. The finish is long and warming with vanilla and liquorice fading to soft spice and sweet oak.
