The 13th release in the First Editions Authors' Series from Glasgow-based independent bottler Hunter Laing & Co, this single cask Campbeltown malt was distilled at Springbank in May 1993. Matured in a refill hogshead (ref HL14288) for 24 years, only 216 bottles were filled in October 2017, each one at a natural cask strength of 53.3% abv and presented in a beautiful leather case emblazoned with gold lettering.A complex nose on this pale gold whisky of dried fruits including oranges and peaches combined with beeswax, a big hit of vanilla and a faint whisper of smoke. Waxy on the palate with more dried fruits, some toffee and sandalwood. The fruity, waxy notes continue into the long, drying finish. An excellent example of a long-aged American-oak matured Springbank.Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) was an English novelist and poet, famed for such works as Far from the Madding Crowd and Tess of the d'Urbervilles, which were both listed in the top 50 of the BBC's survey The Big Read. Considered a Victorian realist, Hardy's works examined the social constraints of Victorian England and the beliefs that he saw to be limiting people's lives and caused unhappiness and suffering.
