The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso - Tasting Review

The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso whiskyWhen The Glenlivet launched The Glenlivet Nadurra back in 2005, the reception was positive to say the least. Praise came in thick and fast from most respected whisky publications and in the years that followed, the whisky won multiple highly prestigious awards -earning its place within the upper ranks of whisky stardom, these included; double gold at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, gold medals at the 2011 and 2012 International Wine & Spirits Awards and silver medals at the 2011 and 2012 International Spirits Challenge.

As a result, The Glenlivet Nadurra quickly became a go-to favourite among even the most prized of whisky collections.

So you can imagine how excited and intrigued fans of Nadurra were when The Glenlivet announced an Oloroso matured expression back in 2014. The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso was the first major bottling from the famous distillery to be drawn from ex-Oloroso sherry casks in living memory – so its announcement was quite special indeed.

The sherry casks gifted the whisky a completely different but equally exquisite character; sweet, nutty and spicy – a more dark and bold dram.

However, despite being released over a year ago, The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso has only been available through travel retail; meaning, unless you or a good friend happened to pick up a bottle at an airport duty free, you couldn’t get your hands on a bottle of this wonderful whisky.

    …That was, until now.

Yes, Nadurra Oloroso has now reached the UK market and its arrival is sure to be met with open arms globally across the whisky community.

So to remind ourselves of just what makes this expression so highly revered, we sat down with a fresh bottle, some good company and prepared to rediscover excellence once again.

    Tasting Notes

Nose: Dry and spicy with tones of sweet dried fruit – raisin, apricots and apple.

Palate: Again dry with a kick of spice but this makes way for a sweetness gifted to this whisky by those Oloroso casks. As the taste develops, this is joined by zesty orange, sweet like marmalade and a subtle touch of dark chocolate.

Finish: The finish lingers long and is more earthy and nutty than on the palate.

Overall, this is a tremendous whisky and deserving of the stature that surrounds it. Fans of The Glenlivet Nadurra will discover something new but equally appealing in this whisky; whilst general fans of The Glenlivet brand are in for a treat.

You can pick up your very own bottle of The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso online today at The Whisky Shop.
