    The
    Maritime Malt

Founded in 1826 in Wick, Caithness, at the height of the herring boom, the Pulteney Distillery is one of Scotland’s most northerly whisky distilleries. When it first opened, roads to the town hadn’t yet been built and the distillery was entirely dependent on the sea for its supply of barley and for the shipping out of its whisky. The town soon became known for barrels of silver (herring) and gold (whisky) which left the port in droves.

While the distillery has endured some tough times, including eight years of Prohibition in the town of Wick and being mothballed for more than twenty years, it has experienced a revival since the launch of the Maritime Malt’s 12 Year Old expression in 1997. Today, the distillery embarks on a new voyage with the launch of a new core range featuring the flagship 12 Year Old and three brand new expressions, distilled and matured by the sea.
