This release from the Penderyn Distillery is a six-year-old single malt, bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. This comes from a single STRF cask. This refers to a formula for ‘shaving’, ‘toasting’, and ‘re-charring’ red wine hogshead casks. This process packs in a huge array of delicate flavours. Part of the Home Nations series, this has an outturn of 433 bottles and is bottled at a level-headed 50% abv. This is the second batch of this whisky, the first being a very popular find. A smooth, sweet single-cask dram.
The elegant, sweet nose is punctuated with vibrant vanilla, freshly cut grass, apricot jam, and wild strawberries. The palate is sweet and fruity, with more apricot, grape diluting juice, with some vanilla sponge cake. The finish has an oily sweetness, with a little hint of red wine tannins. Beautiful.
