The Port Charlotte PAC:01 2011 is the latest addition to the heavily peated Cask Exploration Series of heavily peated Islay single malts. This edition has been matured for a minimum of six years in ex-American oak casks before being transferred for a two-year finish into Pauillac red wine barrels showcasing the distillery's barbeque smoke character paired with the finest of French oak.
With a rich ruby colour and an abundance of dried fruits and spice, this Port Charlotte is bottled at 56.1% ABV natural cask strength, free from chill filtration and all natural colouring. The nose opens with cloves and ginger along with chocolate, caramelised toffee, and delicate coconut and vanilla notes. On the palate oak and malt lead the flavours, followed by thick smoke, fresh citrus and dried fruit. Peat smoke commands the finish with floral coconut and a salty marine element.
