    Bruichladdich Single Malt Whisky

Bruichladdich is a distillery which combines a strong sense of tradition with a forward thinking and innovative attitude. This approach is hardly surprising given the distillery was founded in 1881 and went through a number of ownership changes before being shut down in 1994. It lay dormant until being purchased by a group of private investors and given a new lease of life when it re-opened in 2001.

Located on the whisky hub of Islay, the Bruichladdich distillery stands out for its insistence on continuing to use much of the original Victorian equipment which was in place when it first opened, including a repurposed wash still which may be the oldest currently in use in Scotland. Most of the Bruichladdich whiskies have a uniquely sweet aroma which marks them out as a distinctive kind of Islay whisky. However, they have also created the world’s most heavily peated single malt; The Octomore. This kind of unique expression has made Bruichladdich a respected brand in the whisky community and it is widely considered one of the figureheads of a more modern approach to the art of distilling.

Bruichladdich never produce for blends, and this allows for the cultivation of a highly unique character in their single malt whisky. All the maturation warehouses sit on or above the shores of Loch Indaal– allowing the spirit to evolve with its own natural complexity in a range of different casks chosen to suit each particular expression. This attention to detail is reflected in their whiskies, which tend to be 50% ABV, diluted from cask strength using fresh spring water collected from the nearby Octomore spring.
