About Glen Keith
Originating as an experimental distillery to produce Scotch for Chivas Brothers’ blends, Glen Keith released its first official bottling, a 10 year old, in 1994. It was mothballed in 1999, and then reopened in 2013 primarily to produce whisky for blends once again. However, the Glen Keith single malt is released through independent bottlings and sparing official releases.
Signatory, Secret Speyside and Gordon & McPhail are just some of the independent bottlers to release Glen Keith expressions.
Glen Keith distillery is located in Keith, alongside Glenfiddich and Covalmore.
The distillery currently has five operational stills.
History
The distillery was completed in 1960, and was the first new distillery in Speyside since the great whisky crash of 1898. Initially, the three stills were used for triple distillation – rare for a Speyside whisky – and two more were added when they switched to double distillation. The production utilised the first ever gas-fired stills in Scotland. It was used by Chivas Brothers for its range of blends, and then mothballed in 1999. On its reopening in 2013, many single malts have been bottled bearing the Glen Keith name.
