About The Glenturret

The Highland distillery is home to traditional stills made from hand-beaten copper, which are ran very slowly to encourage increased copper contact. This results in a light spirit, with a sweet toffee apple flavour. The cut of the run takes place in the Spirit Safe, in the traditional method of ‘cutting the eye’, where only the prized ‘heart of the run’ is selected for maturation in mostly ex-bourbon casks.

History

Originally known as “Hosh Distillery,” the distillery was purchased in 1826 by a group of local businessmen, who renamed it “Glenturret.” The distillery changed hands several times over the years, with ownership passing from one family to another. In 1957, the distillery was purchased by the whisky blending company, James Fairlie & Sons, who later sold it to Highland Distillers in 1990. Highland Distillers invested heavily in the distillery, upgrading equipment and increasing production capacity. They also established a visitor centre at the distillery, which proved to be a popular tourist attraction. In 2002, Highland Distillers became part of the Edrington Group, who continued to operate and invest in the distillery. As of Spring 2019, the distillery is owned by Glenturret Holdings.
