A relatively young distillery which is rarely seen as a single malt, Mannochmore is a full and robust Speyside offering.
Mannochmore is owned by Diageo, and used as a vital component of their blended malts. A sister plant to Glenlossie, it is a lighter version of its oily sibling. This is a result of its very clear wort and lengthy fermentation, along with high copper contact during distillation. Still robust, it serves to reinforce and provide a basis for prestigious blends. Its only official bottling is Diageo’s Flora & Fauna 12 Year Old, however it can often be found as independent bottlings from the likes of Murray David and North Star.
Founded by Scottish Malt Distillers in 1971, the site was managed by John Haig & Company, for which Mannochmore provided its whisky to for blends, before being mothballed in 1985 due to the British recession. In 1989, it reopened, and was acquired by Diageo. In 1992, the company released Mannochmore’s first official single malt, as part of their Flora & Fauna series.
