Rarely seen as a single malt, Teaninich distillery located in Alness, in the Scottish Highlands and has a long history of producing high-quality whisky, which has been used in blends by some of the biggest names in the industry.
Teaninich is owned by Diageo as a vital component of their best-selling blends, and is released under their Flora and Fauna range. They uniquely installed a hammer mill and mash filter in 2000, removing the need for a mash tun. This results in an ultra-clear wort, imparting fragrant flavours of Japanese green tea and freshly cut grass.
Built in 1817, Teaninich was an early legal distillery built by Napoleonic war hero and estate owner ‘Blind’ Captain Hugh Munro. A local man, John Ross, bought the distillery in 1869 and ran the site until 1895. Later in its life, and after much renovation, Diageo overtook the lease as DCL in 1933.
