This single grain Scotch whisky was distilled at Dumbarton, the now lost distillery that once stood on the banks of the River Clyde. Laid down in 1977, just three weeks after the world lost Elvis Presley and two months before Star Wars made its debut on the big screen, this liquid then spent 42 years maturing in a single cask, surviving the eventual destruction of the distillery to be bottled by curators of rare spirits, The Last Drop Distillers. Bottled in 2019 at a strength of 48.4% abv, just 150 individually numbered bottles have been produced, each one presented in the usual Last Drop style with a 5cl sample bottle and beautifully crafted leather presentation case.
The nose is sweet and spicy, with Demerara sugar and vanilla. The palate has more sweet Demerara, this time joined by corn oils, light caramel and a growing spice. The finish is long and satisfying with a lingering caramel, vanilla and spice.
