About Blanton's

Released in 1984, Blanton’s bourbon is proudly crafted in the home state of bourbon – Kentucky, USA. It was the first single barrel bourbon to be put on the market, and kick-started the trend of premium, luxury bourbon. The expression is distilled and matured at Buffalo Trace Distillery, where Colonel Blanton served as president until 1952.

The horse stoppers atop every bottle of Blanton's are a reference to the kinship between bourbon and horse-racing - the twin pillars of Kentucky. There are eight different incarnations, which show the movements of a horse during a race, and also have a letter on each. When all are collected, Blanton's is spelled out.

The construction of the famous Warehouse H was overseen by Colonel Blanton. For quickness, they made the warehouse from metal. However, the thin walls created a unique maturation process, which reflected Kentucky’s temperamental weather.

History

One year from retirement, Elmer T. Lee was tasked by the distillery to craft a new exceptional bourbon. He thought back fondly to his time as an apprentice for legendary Colonel Blanton, and how he would maintain his own special reserve for himself as to serve to guests. He would handpick ‘honey barrels’ from the centre cut of Warehouse H, and have that bourbon bottled one barrel at a time. Therefore, Lee named his new batch of bourbon for his mentor – crafted according to this unique process.
