E H Taylor bourbon is named for Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, a key innovator of Kentucky bourbon who owned a variety of distilleries in the 19th century. The rich whiskey is in fact aged in Warehouse, which Taylor himself constructed.
As one of the founding fathers of the bourbon industry, its only fitting that E.H. Taylor Jr. has a whisky named after him. The bourbon surely lives up to this name, as it is crafted using innovative techniques that he invented. Barrels are evaluated and selected to create a perfect blend of distinctive character, and aged in the warehouse he built in 1881. The brand has twelve different expressions, with Small Batch being the flagship bottle.
The range includes E.H. Taylor, Jr. Warehouse C Tornado Surviving, which references a Sunday in 2006, when a tornado damaged two of Buffalo Trace's aging warehouses. One of these was Warehouse C, where this expression was currently maturing. A group of barrels were exposed to the warm Kentucky air, as the warehouse was repaired around them, and created a unique flavour profile to this once-in-a-lifetime whiskey.
E.H. Taylor is multi award-winning, most recently taking Double Gold at the 2022 New York World Wine & Spirits Competition.
The bourbon is made with Buffalo Trace's low-rye mash bill #1 recipe, consisting of corn, rye and malted barley.
History
E.H. Taylor Jr has gained the title of ‘The Father of the Modern Bourbon Industry”. This is due to his extraordinary life, in which he introduced copper fermentation tanks, state-of-the-art grain equipment, column stills, a more efficient sour mash technique and a first-of-its-kind steam heating system to the Kentucky bourbon world. He also fought for higher standards in the bourbon industry, pushing for the passage of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. The bourbon that honours his name was introduced by Buffalo Trace in 2013.
