History

Born on April 3, 1989 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Suntory Corporation, Hibiki was created to be the face of Suntory blended whisky. Using malts and grains from Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita, the reserves from which Hibiki blends can pick and choose are huge. Yamazaki is Japan’s first and oldest malt whisky distillery, established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii. Hakushu is the single malt Japanese whisky born in Suntory’s mountain forest distillery. Made from water with a rare softness and maturing in a lush, forested microclimate, the Hakushu Distillery is blessed by the region’s ever-changing seasons. Chita, on the other hand, is traditionally used as the “dashi” or broth that enhances Suntory blends. After a long period of experimentation, Chita has achieved a level of complexity and sophistication to allow the grain to take centre stage.
