About Jack Daniel's

Daniel’s Whisky is created in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Packaged in distinctive square bottles, Jack Daniel’s sells upwards of 11 million cases of its flagship black label whiskey every year. They are renowned for staying faithful to the slow, time-honoured methods that their founder perfected in 1866. The result is a wonderfully smooth whiskey with hints of oak and dry spice, that is drinkable by itself but can also be relied on to breathe character into any mixed drink. Jack Daniel’s Black Label (also known as Old No. 7, or more commonly as JD, or simply Jack) is one of the best-selling whiskeys in the world. Browse our range below, including the famous Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, and a wide range of other favourites.

Jack Daniel’s signature ingredients are corn, barley, and rye. The recipe for Old No. 7 is 80% corn, 12% barley and 8% rye.

Jack Daniel’s spirit spends time slowly moving through charcoal before going into any cask, an additional step of filtration which imparts the distinctive smoothness. To them, it is this step which categorises Jack Daniel's as a Tennessee whiskey rather than a bourbon.

In the state of Tennessee, distilleries were not allowed to use brand logos or names for a very long time. This is where the meaning behind the famous Old No. 7 logo comes from. It was the number assigned to Daniel’s distillery for government registration.

History

The history of Jack Daniel’s is an American history. Named after the founder, Mr Jack, the Lynchburg Distillery was the first registered distillery in the US in 1866. With an almost unchanged recipe, it survived inactivity during the depression and prohibition years to flourish in the post-war era. The distinctive square bottle came from a chance encounter; in 1895 Jack Daniel was pitched an idea by a local salesman for a square bottle that would prevent the bottles from rolling when transported in a truck. Ever the one for common-sense solutions, Jack Daniel stopped production and adopted this new shape immediately. The unusual bottle became a signature for the famous Tennessee Whiskey around the world.
