Indian Whisky

World Whisky

At first glance, India appears to be the world’s biggest whisky-drinking nation, however these figures acknowledge consumption of unregulated spirit typically made with molasses (and so unrecognised as whisky by EU legislation). Production of ‘real’ Indian whisky has flourished in recent decades, with the launch of India’s first single malt by Amrut in 2004, followed by Goa’s Paul John Distilleries established several years later. India’s climate lends itself to fast maturation, and Indian whiskies are usually younger than their Scotch counterparts, with a sweet, fragrant flavour profile.
