Whyte and Mackay 50 Year Old 175th Anniversary Description

On July 4th of 2020, a widely-celebrated annual event took place: Doddie’s birthday, of course! This year saw Doddie celebrate his milestone 50th year, and despite coronavirus getting in the way of a big party, thousands of people around the world raised a virtual toast to their favourite rugby legend on his special day.

Joining in the celebrations, Whyte & Mackay have donated this incredible 50-year-old bottling. Released in 2019 to commemorate the company’s 175th anniversary, this bottle was only available to competition winners and has never been released for general sale, making this an incredibly hard-to-find gem. The blend in the bottle has been created by marrying together single malt and single grain whiskies from across Scotland, and has been matured for at least five decades in a range of casks: bourbon barrels, first- and second-fill Matusalem sherry butts, tawny port pipes and sherry butts from Gonzalez Byass.

Only 1,750 bottles were produced. Could you be the lucky bidder for one of them?

Each winner of a bottle from Doddie's auction will receive two complimentary Glencairn glasses, branded with the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation logo (pictured on homepage)!

This bottle has been kindly donated by Nick Garland of Whyte & Mackay.

Doddie Weir OBE is one of rugby’s most recognizable personalities. He earned 61 caps for Scotland during a successful playing career.

Doddie is now facing his biggest challenge. In June 2017 the Scot revealed he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease. From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help fellow sufferers and seek ways to further research into this, as yet, incurable disease.

In November 2017 Doddie and his Trustees launched the registered charity My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Its aims are simple: to raise funds to aid research into the causes of Motor Neuron Disease and investigate potential cures; to make grants to individuals suffering from MND, to enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible.
