We've selected our ten favourite whiskies for drinking by the fire this October, full of warming autumnal flavour.

Arran 10 Year Old

The award-winning Arran 10 Year Old is a crowd-pleaser at any time of year. However, it shines in the autumn with it's rich flavours of vanilla sweetness, cinnamon, apple, citrus and sweet oak. Hailing from the island of Arran, this expression captures their unique island style perfectly. Try in their signature Autumn cocktail, The Arran 20/20.

Cragganmore Distillers Edition Double Matured

This Cragganmore expression comes from the heart of Speyside, the region known for toasty, sherried, spicy and warming drams that are perfect for autumn/winter. This one has been matured in port seasoned American oak casks, which has imparted rich flavours of dark fruits, chocolate, oak spice and fig alongside undertones of heather smoke. Gorgeous!

Tamdhu 18 Year Old

A perfect fire-side dram to ease you into autumn. Matured solely in Oloroso sherry casks, the extra age on this classic Speyside dram elevates its full-bodied and rich flavour. The nose evokes aromas of toasted hazelnuts, rich milk chocolate and raisins, before leading to a warming palate of cinnamon, dried fruits and vanilla.

Royal Brackla 12 Years Old

An inviting and underrated dram from the Highlands, Royal Brackla 12 Year Old is aged solely in Oloroso sherry casks. This has resulted in flavours of stewed peaches, black forest gateau, cocoa almonds and muscovado sugar - all of which bring to mind distinctly autumnal desserts.

anCnoc Peated Sherry Cask

From Knockdhu distillery in the Western Highlands, this combination of sherry and peat results in the perfect amalgamation of bonfire night flavour. The sherry cask infuses the dram with toffee apple, warming spices and deep vanilla, and the peated barley brings heaps of wood smoke.

Lindores Cask of Lindores 2 STR Barriques

Our Lowland offering is from the historic home of Scotch, Lindores, where the first monk distilled 'aqua vitae' back in 1494. Although the Lowlands are famed for their gentle, floral, more summertime-esque flavours, this expression has been aged in Red Wine Barriques, which have been toasted and re-charred. The result is a warming palate of dried fruits, roasted & spiced chestnuts, sticky apple pie and cinnamon.

Glenallachie 15 Year Old

This gorgeously rich whisky from Glenallachie in Speyside brings to mind a large slice of spiced carrot cake. After a maturation within a combination of hand-selected Pedro Ximinez Puncheons and Oloroso Puncheons for a sweet spot of 15 years, the liquid has gained toasty flavours of sweet spices, sticky raisins, chocolate truffles, dried fruits and mocha. A flavour bomb for a crisp autumn day.

Glenfiddich Orchard Experimental Series

Despite it's bright springtime appearance, this release from Glenfiddich's exceptionally impressive Experimental Series brings the lighter end of autumnal flavour. The sweet and gentle Speyside expression was finished in Somerset Pomona Spirit casks for four months, bringing sweet notes of orchard fruits, spiced oak and rich toffee.

Talisker Port Ruighe

This gorgeous Talisker expression is named for the trading port on the Isle of Skye, in a toast to the Scottish traders who braved the high seas and were instrumental in founding the port wine trade. Double matured in port casks, the rich fruit notes combine with Talisker's peaty maritime character in a dram bursting with smoke, dark chocolate, plum, spices and orange. Like drinking a hot chocolate by a bonfire.

Port Charlotte 9 Year Old 2009 MC:01 Marsala Cask

If we're leaning into the smoky, why not try the smokiest out there? Bruichladdich's heavily peated twin, this Port Charlotte expression has been fully matured in Marsala wine casks on their home of Islay. The result is a palate of stewed peach and caramel, with an undercurrent of earthy peat and charred oak. Islay does bonfire night.
