The Distillery

Campfire on the isle of Jura

Jura single malt Scotch is made by a tiny community, on an island where the 200 residents are outnumbered by some 5,000 deer. To make their smoky-sweet liquid, they use the crystal clear waters that run off ‘The Paps of Jura’, the tallest mountain range on the isle, and distil using some of the tallest stills of any island distillery, resulting in a remarkably pure whisky. After maturation in American Bourbon barrels, the whisky is then decanted into Jura’s iconic bottle – with its broad shoulders and rounded edges originally designed to withstand rough sea journeys. The whisky was modelled on the lighter expressions of the Highland tradition, to differentiate from their near-neighbours on Islay - famous for their heavily-peated and smoke-bomb whisky. Hence, they are known for flavours of vanilla, cinnamon, pear and honey with a touch of smoke.
