And a Highland Welcome!

Next up, with springtime in the air, we begin our ‘Highland Auction’ here at The Whisky Shop Auctions, so put the date in your diary! All lots going live for 10 days on Friday March 13th hail from the largest whisky region by area in Scotland. If you are looking to add another Brora or Glenugie to your collection or some Glengoyne or Glendronach to quaff, then this is the auction for you . . .

To get an idea of the kinds of bottles we can offer, take a look at the results of our 'Red Auction':

First up is a lot which epitomised the mantra of the ‘Red Auction’: Glenfarclas 20 Year Old (Lot A126101), laid down to mature exclusively in Port pipes for the full two decades of its life in oak. Not only did this impart a fantastically fruity character, but it also gave the whisky a striking ruby-red hue, drawn from the active Port casks. Presented in a Glencairn Crystal decanter, the bottle achieved a hammer price of £360.

‘Macallan’ and ‘auction highlights’ are terms which go hand in hand, and the Red Auction didn’t disappoint.

Lot A126362 saw one of the Masters of Photography releases from The Macallan go under the hammer, reaching £2,700 after some fierce bidding in the final few hours. The Masters of Photography series is a collaboration between The Macallan and some of the world’s most celebrated photographers. This particular edition features renowned portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz working with Kevin McKidd — the Elgin-born actor known for Grey's Anatomy and Trainspotting — under the theme of ‘The Library’.

The image adorning the label of this 1995 single cask bottling depicts McKidd in a reflective pose within a library setting modelled on that of Sir Walter Scott at his home in the Scottish Borders. An expression which would enhance any collection!

Last, but by no means least in this reflection of the Red Auction, is an eternal favourite with collectors and drinkers across the world, the Highland Park 1967 (Lot A126012). This richly coloured and ever more richly flavoured Orcadian malt attracts bidders and interest whenever it makes an appearance in an auction. On this occasion, it rose to £420 after spirited bidding across the 10-day auction.
