These notes primarily come from the spirit produced in the still as opposed to maturation, for example a tall still will produce light, floral and fruity spirit. Lets take a look at our favourite fresh and floral whiskies.

Miyagikyo

In the heart of a beautiful natural setting, the Miyagikyo distillery in Japan combines expertise and modernity in a constant search for finesse and elegance. Their signature single malt expression sings with flavours of rose water, vanilla bean, fresh carnations and oak. Smooth and delicious, light yet intense.

Linkwood 12 Year Old

Not the only dram from Diageo's Flora and Fauna collection that is bursting with floral notes, this whisky hails from Linkwood, a distillery situated on the banks of the River Lossie, near Elgin in Speyside. As the name of this range suggests, this malt boasts an abundance of garden fruits, cedar wood and lavender notes.

Highland Park 15 Year Old

Highland Park is a smoky Island dram from Orkney, which makes the distillery the most northernmost in Scotland. The single malt is made with heather-rich peat, which results in gorgeous aromatic smoke aromas and heather honey notes. Indulgent and complex!

Teaninich 10 Year Old

With much of the output of Teaninich going into Johnnie Walker blends, this is one of only two official bottlings from the distillery in recent years. This Flora and Fauna release is a classic expression of a Highland malt - fresh, grassy, floral and malty. A cult favourite.

1770 Glasgow Tokaji Cask Batch 2

From the Glasgow Distillery Co, this limited edition release is a marriage of four first-fill bourbon casks, which completed a second maturation in Hungarian Tokaji casks for three years and six months. The unique cask finish has imparted the Lowland whisky with plenty of fruity notes, alongside a distinctly floral honey flavour.

Mannochmore 12 Year Old

The delectable floral notes of this Speysider are rarely seen in single malt form, as Mannochmore's offerings are principally used in blends. This gorgeous expression, bottled as a part of Diageo's Flora and Fauna collection, explodes with Springtime flavour, with notes of freshly cut grass, fragrant carnations and wood spice. The profile is complicated by a buttery undertone, deepening the flavour.

Deanston 12 Year Old

The grassy and floral Deanston 12 Year Old is produced with a total lack of modern technology. Founded in an old cotton mill on the banks of River Teith, this Highland dram is a product of its beautiful natural surroundings. A Gold Medal winner in The W Club Members’ Choice Awards 2023.

Glenmorangie Original

Glenmorangie distillery is home to the tallest stills in Scotland, which makes their new make ultra-light and floral in character. Their flagship 10-year-old showcases this beautifully, with notes of soft vanilla and lots of floral fruitiness.

Hibiki Japanese Harmony

This popular - and stunning - Japanese blended whisky contains many layers of flavour. One of these is a robust floral thread, which brings notes of moss, fresh cut grass, white flowers and rose water. Touches of oak and vanilla complete this magnificent dram that is well worth the hype.

Clynelish 14 Year Old

An interesting mix of maritime and floral flavour makes Clynelish a truly unique Highland dram. The only official bottling from the northerly and coastal distillery, the 14 Year Old explodes with notes of floral carnations, planed oak, orange and hints of brine.
