Johnnie Walker

If there is one brand that is synonymous with the words blended whisky, then it is Johnnie Walker. The brand can be traced back to the 19th century, when John “Johnnie” Walker started selling whisky from his grocery shop in Ayrshire, Scotland. Although his blends were popular with the locals, it was until after his death in 1857, when his son Alexander inherited the successful family business.

Alexander was ambitious and had a flare for marketing and advertising, in 1867 he launched Johnnie Walkers first commercial blend, calling it Old Highland Walker. He would negotiate and barter with the captains of local shipping vessels who would then carry his whisky across the seas. It didn’t take long for Old Highland Walker to become available all around the world.
