An egalitarian new signature single malt from the Outer Hebrides’ Social Distillery, now with over a decade of production under their belts since spirit first emerged from their stills in 2015.
The distillery was founded with its community of 1800 or so islanders in mind and heart, intended to provide local employment across the generations and be a catalyst for positive change. Their whisky is made, matured and married on-island by a young, local team and is designed to be accessible, yet complex. With its subtle scents of fresh sea air, machair flowers and gentle peat smoke, it is also richly evocative of the gloriously wild place where it’s made. An approachable but layered dram, made to be shared and savoured with friends.
Matured in a mixture of first-fill bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, with the distillery’s characteristic light Hebridean peat. Made with 100% Scottish barley, matured entirely in the distillery’s shoreline warehouses at Ardhasaig, just up the road from the distillery. Bottled at 46% abv, free from artificial colour or chill filtration.
Butterscotch and iced cherry Bakewell tart on the nose, the pastry-shop sweetness opening into bright fruit and machair flowers, with hints of boiled sweets and gentle, warming spice. Complex layers of rich buttery caramels and warming clove and liquorice dance on the palate, balanced by the distillery’s signature, subtle minerality. A long, creamy finish, with lingering soft Hebridean peat smoke.
