Amrut naarangi description
This Indian single malt from Amrut in Bangalore takes its name from the Hindi for 'orange', a fitting reflection of the unique maturation which used casks that had held Oloroso sherry infused with orange peel for two years before being disgorged and filled with 3-year-old Amrut single malt to age further. The nose has plenty of the orange influence, without becoming overpowering, alongside traces of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate is smooth and sweet with a slight citrus aspect, before a long and warming finish with lingering chocolate notes.
Amrut is named for a golden pot that held the elixir of life in Hindu mythology. The brand trialled the sale of its single malts in Indian restaurants in the UK in 2002, starting in Glasgow where it was particularly successful, before being promoted throughout Europe.
