History
The Nikka Whisky Distilling Company was founded by Masataka Taketsuru, ‘the Father of Japanese Distilling’, in 1934. During the early 1920’s he had studied malt distilling in Scotland and his ambition was to establish a malt whisky distillery in Japan on the Scottish model. Whisky was not well-known as a product in Japan, and Masataka brought a combination of chemistry expertise and entrepreneurship to the industry. Nikka is now the second biggest producer of whisky in Japan.
