    Chivas Regal

Chivas Regal blended whisky can be traced back to 1801, with the opening of a new luxury grocery shop in Aberdeen, Scotland. The Chivas Brothers grocery sold luxury goods such as spirits, coffee and spices. As the business progressed they started to dabble in blending their own whisky, focusing on producing a high class and quality of blend that would appeal to their clientele.

In 1843 as their reputation grew, Chivas Brothers became one of the first companies to be awarded a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria to supply the royal family with goods and provisions. Around the same time they began to truly pioneer the art of selecting and blending selected malt whiskies, creating blends that were smooth, rich and the perfect harmony of flavour.

Great fortune came in 1860 with the passing of the 1860 Spirit Act which permitted the blending of whiskies in warehouses. This recognised whisky blending as an official technique and opened the door to the blended malt whisky industry we know today!

In 1909 the Chivas Regal 25 Year Old was launched as the world’s first luxury whisky. It was shipped to New York where it was hailed among the social elite of Manhattan. Reputation of the luxury blended malt spread enthusiastically across North America leading to high demand and further cementing the prestige of Chivas brand.

However, the success wasn’t long-lived, as prohibition in the US caused Chivas Regal 25 Year Old to all but disappear from the shelves.

In 1938 Chivas Regal returns to American soil, but this time in the form of a new 12 Year Old blended scotch whisky. In 1949, backed by some heavy advertising, the Chivas Regal 12 Year Old launches internationally to a triumphant response and recognition – Chivas Regal was back!

Today, Chivas Regal is one of the most successful blended Scotch whisky brands in the world, with sales having grown by over 40% in the last few years. As a testament to the quality of their blending, to this day, the Chivas Regal 12 Year Old remains at the core of the Chivas range, with the 25 year old making a return in 2007 in the form of a limited-release bottling called the Chivas Regal 25 Old Legend – made exactly the way it was back in 1909.

Chivas Regal is the world’s original luxury whisky. Blended in Scotland since the nineteenth century, Chivas Regal blends some of the finest maturing malt and grain Scotch whiskies with the classic Speyside single malt whiskey, Strathisla, at its heart.
