Pronounced ‘moy-n’yuh’, meaning ‘peated’ in Gaelic, this limited edition release from Bunnahabhain offers added peat to the more commonly unpeated whisky of the Islay distillery. Moine PX was distilled in September 1997 and matured initially in traditional oak whisky casks for 19 years, before being transferred to PX casks in March 2016. Just 1661 bottles were produced, all at a cask strength of 50% ABV and without chill-filtration or added colouring.
The nose is rich in sultanas, figs and dried fruit, followed by a burst of sweet berries. Roasted nuts and fig rolls develop in the palate, alongside a sweet mouthfeel of vanilla and caramel; a layered character, with light and fruity flavours developing into a pleasing, peppery smoke finish.
