Here is the first ever release from the newcomers in Ayrshire at Lochlea Distillery. We are excited for the future of this young distillery who are focussed on being as transparent as possible, using small batches of their own grown barley, fermentation in wooden wash backs and on-site maturation.
Matured in first-fill bourbon and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, Lochlea are sticking to the traditional processes by leaving their whisky free from chill filtration and at natural colour, bottled at 46% abv.
The dram opens with aromas of fresh orchard fruit and zesty orange, with vanilla fudge and a lovely cereal note in the background. The palate is rich and sweet with burnt caramel and hazelnuts and a medium mouth coating to finish whilst still holding on to that fruit.
