An impressive release from Rabbit Hole. The Louisville-based distillery have released a sweet high rye whiskey that has been matured in slowly-toasted barrels before being bottled at 47.5% abv. The expression is free from chill filtration. The name "Heigold" is in reference to Christian Heigold, a German stonecutter who came to Louisville in the 1850s. Enjoy this whisky neat or over ice. It also works exceptionally well in many a whiskey based cocktail.
The expression opens with aromas of caramel and gentle notes of cinnamon. The palate is oaky with butterscotch and the finish leaves you with hints of citrus and warm spices.
