    Tormore Single Malt Whisky

Tormore is one of the younger distilleries in Scotland, founded in 1960 – it was the first new distillery to be built in the Highlands in the 20th century. It was designed by Sir Albert Richardson and built by Schenley International, who intended to use the spirit produced there for their popular Long John blends.

Aesthetically, Tormore is one of the most distinctive distilleries in Scotland. Sitting near the River Spey, in the shadow of a pine forest, the distillery is picturesque to say the least; a clock on the site plays traditional Scottish music every quarter of an hour, and the garden plants are trimmed in the shape of stills.

Following its construction, not much of note happened to Tormore distillery until it was bought over by Allied Distillers in 1975. It then came under the ownership of Pernod Ricard in 2005, who passed operation of the distillery to their Chivas Brothers subsidiary. Since then, they have raised the profile of Tormore as a single malt whisky; the core range now consists of 14 and 16 year old expressions, and there are a number of independent bottles available.
