The Devil’s Casks 22 Year Old is a remarkable elder sibling to the new Devil’s Casks 10 Year Old. Carefully wrought from just two casks reserved from the original series, it brings the story full circle, past and present connected through one exceptional whisky.
Crafted from a marriage of liquid matured in first-fill oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks and graced with a refill oloroso cask finish, it has developed extraordinary richness and complexity over its two decades of maturation. Presented at cask strength of 59.6% abv, non-chill filtered and with no colour added to its natural, burnished mahogany tones.
Remarkably, deceptively soft at its natural strength, careful dilution nonetheless mellows this lovely dram even further.
Deep, bold notes of dark fruits and aged fruitcake on the nose, woven through with polished leather, molasses, and fragrant ripe apples. Potent birch tar softens into a gentler smokiness, balanced by sweet maple and a subtle, treacly richness. Layers of luxurious dark chocolate, rich caramels and mature dried fruits are joined by tobacco, mellow baking spice and a bright scatter of herbal notes on the intricate palate. The finish is exceptionally long and rounded, with lingering sweetness and a gentle wisp of smoke. Back to top
