The latest in the Small Batch series from the Isle of Arran’s peated specialists Lagg follows editions finished in Palo Cortado and Manzanilla sherry casks with an expression fully matured in 125 litre ex-bourbon quarter casks. Re-made from ex-bourbon barrels, the casks’ smaller size accelerates maturation by increasing oak-to-liquid contact, weaving concentrated layers of vanilla, butterscotch and charred oak into the fragrant peat smoke and vibrant citrus of Lagg’s spirit. Matured for six years and bottled at 56% abv, it is presented without chill filtration or added colour. A wave of sweet peat on the nose, followed by buttery vanillas, bright citrus and orchard fruits, sea spray and driftwood char. Full and oily-textured on the palate, with vanilla fudge quickly enveloped by earthy smoke, cracked black pepper, and oak spice. There are hints of grilled lemon, coconut and honey developing into dark chocolate as smouldering smoke and salinity ease into sweetness and fresh citrus on the finish. Read More
