This Authors’ Series is a range of limited edition and exclusive single malt whisky, created by the prestigious blenders and bottlers, Hunter Laing Ltd. Each whisky has been paired with a famous author, ensuring that the unique taste and character of the malt has been inspired by the author’s life and work. Charles Dickens, Robert Lewis Stevenson, Rudyard Kipling & Edgar Allan Poe are the first four expressions that have been released.

This particular expression was distilled in 1993 and bottled in 2015 from a Refill Barrel at a natural cask strength of 54.8% volume. One of only 99 bottles, this edition is somewhat typical of Macallan expressions from around this time. The fruity and spicy notes create a strikingly balanced whisky, whilst the character of Charles Dickens most definitely shines through. Charles MacLean said: "Pale amber in colour; good beading. A mellow nose, with fruit compote and orange zest resting on a base of sandalwood; becomes slightly peppery with a drop of water. Viscous, sweet, tannic and warming to taste at natural strength, and similar (plus fine white pepper) with water."

Each bottle is presented in a brown leather box, embossed with gold medallic text, which adds to the luxurious feel of the product. The bottles are also individually wax sealed with a stylish monogram design.

Charles Dickens was an English writer and social critic, whose most famous works include Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol and David Copperfield. Born in Portsmouth, Dickens opted out of formal education to work in a factory, and became infamous for his satirical style of humour, and his keen observation of character and society. Dickens pioneered the style of narrative fiction, and was widely regarded as the literary colossus of his age.
