Springbank’s 1994 Vintage 31 Year Old (2026 release) is the second in the distillery’s annual Vintage series, launched in 2025 to showcase some of their oldest whiskies and sought-after by collectors and drinkers alike.
Springbank is remarkably – if not notoriously – self-contained and traditional in its processes, handling every stage from floor malting to bottling by hand. Long distillations, partial direct fire, and partial triple-distillation generate a multi-dimensional, oily, fruity, lightly smoky spirit capable of both power and subtlety, carefully shepherded to maturity onsite.
The compelling, often funky complexity of their whiskies, aided and abetted by their stubborn cleaving to tradition, has led to the distillery developing a true cult following, as well as serving as a clear source of inspiration for many new whisky-makers.
A nose of aromatic tropical fruits and soft, maritime peat lead into a full palate thick with honeyed malt, creamy vanilla, citrus, and light spice. Fresh herbs and toasted coconut touch on the gently smoky, saline finish.
One of a run of just 1,180 bottles matured in a combination of 80% bourbon, 10% sherry and 10% red wine casks and bottled at 45.1% abv, free from chill filtration or artificial colour.
