Beginning with Diageo's six Classic Malts of Scotland – Cragganmore, Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchie, Lagavulin, Oban and Talisker – The Distillers Editions of 'double matured' or 'cask finished' single malts were first introduced in the 1990s. These vintage expressions are finished in fortified wine casks for a period beyond the age of the standard expression using casks selected by the Master Distiller at each distillery.
